Rehman writes to Chancellor to secure further financial support for smaller football clubs such as Gillingham FC

Rehman wrote to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, calling on him to consider further financial support for smaller football clubs in League 1 and League 2, such as Gillingham FC, to help ensure their viability during the coronavirus epidemic.

Rehman met with Gills FC Chairman Paul Scally earlier today to discuss the matter, who outlined that clubs such as the Gills may struggle during the coronavirus epidemic as they are much more reliant on matchday income compared to Premier League clubs.

So far this afternoon, Rehman has received the support of Jonathan Gullis, the MP for Stoke-on-Trent North who represents Port Vale Football Club; James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, representing Southend Football Club; Stephen McPartland, MP for Stevenage, representing Stevenage Football Club; and from Sarah Champion, MP for Rotherham, representing Rotherham Football Club.

Yesterday (17/03/20), Rehman asked the Chancellor a question in the House of Commons on the same matter.
