Newly released figures show that 139 churches have closed to worship in England since 2007.
The figures, from a Parliamentary Question asked by Rehman, show that last year, in 2012, 20 churches operated by the Church of England were closed to regular public worship.
This means that over the past decade more than 260 churches have closed their doors, averaging 26 a year.
The Church of England operates around 16,000 churches and places of worship which are in regular use.
Commenting on these figures, Rehman said:
"These latest figures show that 139 churches have closed to worshippers in the past six years. Churches are at the heart of the local community and although some of them will remain open for other uses, I am saddened to find that they are still closing to regular worship, which is what they were built for in the first place."
