Gillingham and Rainham MP, Rehman Chishti, was today interviewed by ITV News on re-introduction of his Bill to regulate the sale, ownership and usage of dangerous laser pens.
Speaking to political correspondent Phil Hornby, Mr Chishti explained that high-powered laser pens are putting the public safety at risk: last year there were over 1,300 incidents where laser pens were used to target both civilian and military aircraft and transport infrastructure.
The Laser Pens (Regulation of Sale, Ownership and Usage) Bill 2016-17 is supported by the British Air Line Pilots’ Association and the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. This Bill is expected to have its second reading debate on Friday 2 December 2016.
