Last winter transport links across Kent were severely disrupted by snow and many passengers were left stranded with little or no information.
Rehman asked the Minister for Transport, Justine Greening, what steps she has taken to improve winter resilience on the road and railways.
Miss Greening said that significant efforts have been made across the transport sector this year to boost resilience and preparedness for the winter weather, and the Government has been working with operators and local government to ensure that the transport network keeps moving in the event of severe winter weather.
Rehman highlighted the plight of commuters from Gillingham and Rainham who experienced severe disruptions last winter and many were left stranded with little or no information. In a further question he asked the Minster what steps she has taken to ensure that commuters receive better information about delays, disruption and cancellation.
Miss Greening assured Rehman that the rail industry is significantly better prepared for this winter. She said that actions are being taken, through investment in rail and in carriages, to make sure that snow and ice does not stop on the tracks, and more money had been invested in clearing snow and in managing the situation in terms of passenger information.
