Rehman is calling on local residents to consider becoming organ donors.
This week (8-14 July) is National Transplant Week, which encourages more people to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and to pass the message on to friends and families. More information can be found on their website.
Last year in the UK, 4000 lives were transformed by receiving a transplant. Sadly, there are 10,000 people are on the waiting list and three people every day will die because there are simply not enough organs available.
On Wednesday (10 July 2013) Rehman attended the Transplant Week event in Parliament to show his support for their campaign.
In an article for the Daily Jang, Rehman highlighted the issue amongst ethnic minorities, who often have to wait up to three times as long for a transplant than the general population.
He has also been campaigning for a special day of remembrance. In a recent article for Conservative Home, Rehman argued that it would give greater recognition to those who make this sacrifice for others.
Previously Rehman has received the support of the Prime Minister to encourage more people to register as donors.
Rehman said:
"One way that people can help to save and improve the quality life of others is by becoming an organ donor. This week is National Transplant Week and an excellent opportunity to consider whether you can help others by signing up and passing on the message to friends and families."
