Yesterday in Parliament [15 September 2016], Gillingham and Rainham MP, Rehman Chishti, resubmitted his Health Services Commissioning (Equality and Accountability) Bill. This takes forward Mr Chishti’s campaign to reduce inequality in the health care received by people with mental illness and people with learning disabilities.
In order to achieve greater accountability, the bill will require commissioners of health services to make an annual report to the Secretary of State on the equality of service provision and the health outcomes for individuals with mental health illness.
The Bill is supported by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, with whom Mr Chishti met this week to discuss key policy issues.
