Rehman welcomes the news today (28 March 2013) that Medway’s bid for a University Technical College (UTC) has been successful.
The Department for Education has announced that Medway is one of thirteen bids to be approved in the next wave of UTCs.
Medway’s application has been supported by Medway Council, working in partnership with the University of Greenwich, MidKent College as well as BAE Systems and the Royal School of Military Engineering. It will specialise in engineering and construction.
Rehman said:
"This is fantastic news for young people in Medway who will greatly benefit from a new UTC. By combining practical and academic education, the UTC will provide an opportunity for students to learn the skills they need to succeed.
"Engineering and technical skills are very much in demand by businesses in the UK and are key to the future of our economy and the UTC will help to inspire a greater interest in this sector amongst young people in Medway."
