Rehman has welcomed the findings of a new report which has rejected the idea of a Thames estuary airport.
A cross party report by the Transport Select Committee, published on Friday (10 May 2013), said that it would be hugely expensive and have a substantial impact on the environment including wildlife habitats.
Commenting on the report, Rehman said:
"I welcome the findings of this report, which confirms what many people in Medway already knew that an airport in the Thames estuary is not the solution to meet our country’s aviation needs.
"The Transport Committee has conducted detailed research and taken evidence from a number of experts and has concluded that it would be hugely expensive and should be rejected.
The evidence is clear that an airport in the estuary would irrevocably alter Medway and there are many economic, environmental and safety issues that make it an unviable option."
