Rehman hosted an event in Parliament to establish connections between grass roots sporting organisations and Members of Parliament.
The event was hosted in conjunction with Sport England, an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Sport England helps people and communities across the country develop a sporting habit for life.
Locally, Sports England has helped to fund Medway Park, provided £50,000 to the Gillingham Anchorians for floodlights and support for Black Belt Martial Arts new facilities.
Rehman hosted the event following his work as the Parliamentary Fellow for Sport England between 2010 and 2012. As part of the role, he has worked to raise awareness of sporting issues that affect participation.
Following the event, Rehman commented:
"I was pleased to see so many MPs interested in taking part in this valuable scheme. Sport participation provides many benefits, both for individuals and the community. Helping sports governing bodies understand the best ways of engaging with the political process is important for the continued development of grassroots sport. I have seen firsthand how important this support is."
