Rehman welcomes the news that the percentage of waste from Medway ending up in landfill has fallen dramatically since 2007.
In a question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Rehman asked about waste from Medway ending up in landfill each year. The answer showed that in the five years from 2007, the percentage of waste ending up in landfill has fallen by two thirds.
The overall amount of waste produced in Medway has also fallen by 10% in the last five years, the equivalent of 15 000 tonnes.
Commenting on the latest figures Rehman:
“I am pleased to see that both overall waste from Medway and the percentage of waste that ends up in landfill are falling. The environmental benefits for the area are significant. The increased awareness of both individuals in Medway and the efforts of the council to improve local waste management are impressive.”
