The Health Secretary told Parliament today (9 February 2016) that he is determined to deal with the problems at Medway hospital quickly and provide safer care.
He was speaking in response to a question from Rehman, who quizzed him on improvements at the Trust.
The Secretary of State, Jeremy Hunt, told the House of Commons that there are now 106 more doctors and 26 more nurses at the Trust and the link with another hospital is now starting to bear fruit.
Rehman Chishti MP asked:
"Following the recent CQC inspection at Medway, the staff and the new chief executive and the team are working hard to turn long, historic and deep issues at Medway around. What further support can the government offer to the Hospital to turn it around and out of special measures?"
The Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt MP, told the House of Commons:
"I would like to thank my honourable friend for his enormous support for that hospital which has been through a very difficult patch. I had a long meeting with the chief inspector of hospitals about Medway hospital yesterday.
"He’ll been pleased to know that over the past five years we’ve got 106 more doctors and 26 more nurses in the trust. We now have a link with Guy’s and St Thomas’ which is beginning to bear fruit.
"There’s lots more to do but what we’re determined to make sure is that we don’t sweep these problems under the carpet, we deal with them quickly and provide safer care for his constituents."
