Gillingham and Rainham MP, Rehman Chishti, has been campaigning for the threshold to be lowered for the payment of compensation to delayed rail passengers.
The Department for Transport has announced that rail passengers will soon be able to claim compensation for delays of more than 15 minutes.
The scheme will launch on Govia Thameslink Railway services in the next few months and then be rolled out across other franchises.
Commenting on the Government’s proposals, Rehman said:
“I welcome this terrific step forward by the Government. I have been calling on Southeastern trains to allow Medway commuters to automatically receive a refund when their trains are delayed by a few minutes, instead of the existing 30 minutes. I would urge Southeastern trains to take up this scheme as soon as possible and to go further, and offer passengers compensation, as c2c does, after 2-minute delays.”
