On Wednesday (23 January 2013) Rehman asked the Prime Minister at Prime Ministers Questions to "encourage people to register for organ donations, which help to save people’s lives."
David Cameron praised Gillingham for hosting last summer’s Transplant Games and paid tribute to all those who took part saying "they are a testament to the benefits of transplantation."
Rehman also met with Chairman Keith Rigg and Olivia Hind from Transplant 2013, which campaign to significantly increase the number of organ transplants.
Figures from Transplant 2013 show that although there was an 8% increase in organ donations last year, there are still more than 7,500 people on the transplant waiting list for the UK.
In Gillingham and Rainham there are 29,559 people registered on the Organ Donor Register, but the rate at which new people are joining has been falling each year for the past five years.
Rehman said:
"Organ donation helps to save thousands of lives each year; however this can only happen if people are registered as organ donors and I am keen to encourage people to sign up."
